NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Dartmouth men's track and field team took third place (45 points) at the 2011 Ivy Heptagonal Championship on Sunday in New York, N.Y. Princeton won the meet with 215 points and Cornell took second with 172 points.
Not only did the team take third place, but also had several individuals earn top five spots. In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Connor Reilly (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took third place with a time of 6.837. Sophomore Anthony Romaniw (Hamilton, Ont.) had the best finish of any Big Green competitor by taking second in the 800 meters. He crossed the finish line at 1:49.60.
In the distance events, Dartmouth did well. Senior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.) took fifth in the mile at 4:12.89. In the 5000 meters, sophomore Phil Royer (Portsmouth, R.I.) placed fourth with a time of 14:15.22. Royer took second in the 3000 meters on Saturday.
The quartet of junior John Turro (Katonah, N.Y.), freshman Joseph Woiwode (Rockville, Md.), Robbins and Romaniw took third in the 4x800 meter relay at 7:32.85. Junior Robert Contuzzi (Northampton, Mass.) finished fifth in the heptathlon with 4822 points.
Dartmouth next competes at the IC4A's on Mar. 5-6.
