GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Dartmouth junior Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) finished the first round of the Ivy League Men's Golf Championship with a 69 (-2) for a three-stroke lead at Galloway National Golf Course on Friday. As a team, the Big Green are just eight strokes off the pace in fourth place at 30-over par (314), trailing Yale with a 306 (+23).
Williamson played the front nine at even par — with one bogey and one birdie — before catching fire on the back nine. Starting with the 11th hole, he birdied four of the next five holes to drop to four-under. After making par on 16 and 17, however, Williamson settled for a double bogey on 18, yet still finished the day as the only golfer to shoot par or better.
Eric Salazar from Princeton carded a one-over 72 to finish the day in second place, while five others ended their round at three-over par, five strokes behind Williamson. Sophomore Andrew Jankowski (Elkins, N.H.) had a solid first round for the Big Green as well, tying for ninth with a five-over 76. He played the first 12 holes at even par — making par on 10 of the holes — before being saddled with a triple bogey on the 13th hole.
Another New Hampshire native, sophomore James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) tied for 21st with an 82 (+11), while senior Davis Mullany (Great Barrington, Mass.) and junior Teddy Overton (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) each shot an 87 (+16) to finish in a tie for 37th.
The second round will take place on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m.
