AMHERST, MASS. —The Dartmouth men's track and field team placed second at the UMass Invitational on Saturday. The Big Green had five individual winners. UMass Amherst finished in first place with 195.50 points, the Big Green placed second with 153 points and Vermont took third with 105.50 points.
In the field events, Freshman Ben Nollet (Storrs, Conn.) placed first in the high jump at 1.99 meters (6-06.25 feet). Senior David Irving (Manchester, N.H.) took first in the shot put, discus and hammer. He threw 15.42 meters (50-07.25 feet) in the shot put, 50.01 meters (164-01.00 feet) in the discus and 57.38 meters (188-03.00 feet) in the hammer throw. Senior Don Kephart (Lafayette, Calif.) placed in two events. He took second in the shot put at 14.61 meters (47-11.25 feet) and third in the discus at 43.10 meters (141-05.00 feet). Junior Nick Resendes (Warwick, R.I.) placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.57 meters (162-07.00 feet).
In the running events, the Big Green took the top three spots in the 5000 meters. Freshman Henry Sterling (South Freeport, Maine) took the top spot at 14:58.07, junior Graham Keggi placed second at 15:05.85 and sophomore Mike Danaher (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished third at 15:28.17.
In the 110 hurdles, senior Christopher Fletcher (Annapolis, Md.) crossed the finish line third at 15.13. Junior John Turro (Katonah, N.Y.) finished third in the 800 meters at 1:55.48.
The Big Green compete next week at the Ivy Heptagonals at Yale.
