Dartmouth's varsity eight had won the Packard last season for the first time in five years, but Syracuse took the cup today on Onondaga Lake. There was a light tail wind that increased to only three miles per hour by the end of the races.
Syracuse won the varsity eight in a time of 5:37.7 ahead of Dartmouth in 5:40.5, in what would prove to be the closes race of the day.
The Orange ultimately won all four races on the day including the second varsity eight, crossing in 5:47.1 with the Big Green second in 5:54.0. Syracuse also won the varsity four in a time of 6:29.1 and Dartmouth took second in 6:51.2.
The novice eight race also went to Syracuse, which crossed the finish in 5:58.04 and Dartmouth was just behind in 6:02.2.
Dartmouth will regroup and prepare for the IRA National Championships in Camden, N.J. from June 1-4.
