Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Dartmouth women's tennis team began its fall season at the Brown Invitational on Friday and had the most success in doubles. The doubles' matches were played as mock duals and the Big Green reached the semi finals before falling to Princeton.

Dartmouth bested Boston University in the quarterfinals with victories from the combo of sophomore Melissa Matsuoka (Newport Beach, Calif.) and freshman Akiko Okuda (Tenafly, N.J.) and the duo of freshman Theresa Smith (University Park, Fla.) and senior Shelley Carpeni (New York, N.Y.).

In singles, Smith was the only Dartmouth player to win her opening match. Playing in the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Flights, the freshman defeated Jen Fridman of Binghamton, 6-0, 6-3.

The invitational continues on Saturday, Sept. 24.
