Big Green Head to Maine for Weekend Series with Black Bears

THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth women's hockey team will once again be on the road for a pair of games this weekend at Maine. The 3 p.m. matinee contests inside Alfond Arena will see the Big Green square off with the Black Bears, the fourth Hockey East opponent on this year's schedule already.

SHAKE IT OFF
The Green will look to get back in the win column after a 3-2 overtime loss Wednesday night at Northeastern pushed the team's winless stretch to four games (0-3-1). The last Dartmouth victory came on Election Night (Nov. 6) as it took care of in-state rival New Hampshire, 3-2, at Thompson Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Reagan Fischer scored a power-play goal 7:40 into the third period to tie the game and force overtime. However, despite the late-game momentum, Northeastern's Kendall Coyne scored her second of the night just 2:08 into OT to lift the home team to the 3-2 win at Matthews Arena.

GOOD START
Senior Sally Komarek gave the Big Green a 1-0 lead early in the game as she beat Chloe Desjardins 3:26 into the first period with her second of the season. Jenna Hobeika and Laura Stacey helped set up the goal and picked up their third and eighth assists, respectively, on the play.

EXTRA TIME IS THE NORM
Already this season, Dartmouth has gone to overtime with an opponent in five games, including four times in the last five match-ups. Last season, the team played eight OT contests in 30 total games, but just three times before Jan. 1.

SCOUTING MAINE
The Black Bears have had a rough go of it this season with just two wins in 13 games (not counting a 3-0 exhibition loss to Team Russia on Nov. 22). In their last outing, they were shutout by No. 4 Boston College, 10-0, in the second meeting of a two-game set in Chestnut Hill. In the first match-up between the two, BC came away with a 7-2 win on home ice. Maine is led offensively by Brittany Dougherty's five goals, seven assists and 12 points this season.

- The team's goaltending situation is a bit more spread out than other teams the Big Green have met with this year. Senior Brittany Ott and sophomore Meghann Treacy have split time in the crease with Ott earning the slight edge thanks to her .913 save percentage and 3.63 goals-against average.

AGAINST MAINE
This weekend will mark the 10th and 11th games in the all-time series between the two programs. Coming into the two-game stay in Orono, Dartmouth holds a dominating 9-0-0 advantage, having never lost to Maine. The two last met back on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2001 in Hanover. The Big Green swept the weekend with 6-0 and 3-2 (OT) victories at Thompson Arena.

100 IN BOSTON
Senior Jessica Gagner became the fifth player to reach 100 career games played when she suited up against the Huskies Wednesday night in Boston. Fellow senior Sally Komarek enters the weekend in Orono with 99 games played in a Dartmouth sweater to her credit.

STACEY'S STRONG START
Just 10 games into her freshman season, Laura Stacey has been making an impact on the scoresheet. Only three times this year has the first-year forward been held scoreless. Nearing the midway point and winter break, Stacey is tied with senior co-captain Reagan Fischer with a team-leading 10 points, good for a point-per-game average. So far, that point total ranks fourth among ECAC Hockey rookies.

GOOD PK
Dartmouth's penalty killers were dominant against a potent Northeastern team, finishing the night 5-for-5 while down a player. The Huskies had three power plays in the third, looking to get the winner in regulation, but the Big Green PK was a perfect 3-for-3 in the stanza.

FINAL PERIOD PRESSURE
This season, Dartmouth's eight goals against in the third period ranks as the third best in ECAC Hockey. Harvard has yet to allow a goal in the third, while Brown has surrendered just four so far. The Big Green and Clarkson have seen opponents score just eight times, while Cornell has given up nine in the final 20 minutes.
