Seventh-Ranked Men's Squash Splits Final Home Matches

HANOVER, N.H. — The seventh-ranked Dartmouth men's squash team hosted two matches on Friday and earned a split, defeating 11th-ranked Middlebury, 8-1, and losing to third-ranked Yale, 6-3. The split moved the Big Green to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the Ivy League. The loss dropped the Panthers to 13-6, and the Bulldogs improved to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in the Ivy League.

Dartmouth had two players win both of their matches. Junior Chris Hanson (Greenwich, Conn.) defeated Yale's Kenneth Chan at No. 1 singles, 11-4, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8. Hanson also topped Middlebury's Valentin Quan at the top spot, 11-7, 11-4, 11-7. The other Big Green athlete to win both matches was senior Nick Sisodia (Chicago, Ill.). Sisodia bested Richard Dodd of Yale at second singles, 11-9, 10-12, 11-7, 11-5, and Jay Dolan of Middlebury, 11-3, 11-3, 11-4.

The Big Green received its only other victory against the Bulldogs at No. 8 singles. Junior Alex Kurth (Tenafly, N.J.) defeated John Roberts, 11-3, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9.

In the contest against the Panthers, Dartmouth had six other players besides Hanson and Sisodia register victories, including five coming in three games. Sophomore Chris Jung (Seattle, Wash.) earned a win at No. 4 singles, 11-4, 12-10, 11-6. At the fifth spot, senior Stephen Wetherill (Ambler, Pa.) beat Cooper Redpath, 12-10, 11-9, 11-8. Sophomore Fletcher Pease (Cincinnati, Ohio) won at No. 6 singles, 11-7, 11-5, 14-12.

At eighth singles, senior Brian O'Toole (Short Hills, N.J.) swept Reed Palmer, 11-3, 11-5, 11-5. At the ninth spot, senior Jack Barrett (Riverside, Conn.) bested Robert Galluccio, 11-6, 11-2, 11-9. The only win for Dartmouth that took more than three games was at seventh singles. Freshman Bayard Kuensell (Haverford, Pa.) took five games to defeat Addison DiSesa, 11-5, 4-11, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10.

The Big Green plays at Brown on Sunday at 2 p.m. in their final match before the CSA Championships on Feb. 17.
