PINEHURST, N.C. - Former Dartmouth men's golfer Peter Williamson '12 claimed medalist honors at the 112th North and South Amateur held at Pinehurst No. 8 Thursday afternoon, taking the top spot with a birdie on the first hole of a sudden death playoff.
The three-time Ivy League champion shot an even par 71 during the third and final round of stroke play on the 7,042-yard Centennial Course (No. 8).
Now the top seed, Williamson will move on to the opening round of match play on Friday at Pinehurst No. 2. He will play 16th-seeded Bryson DeChambeau, a rising freshman at SMU, who was one of five players to survive a 10-man playoff for five spots in match play.
The North and South is the longest consecutive-running amateur golf championship in the United States today, now in its 112th year.
