SCOUTING BRYANT
The Bulldogs make the trip to the Upper Valley for the fifth year in a row
for their midweek tilt with the Big Green. The team shook off a four-game
losing skid with a 2-0 victory last Friday afternoon against intrastate rival
and Ivy League foe Brown. Junior Kayleigh Ballantyne and sophomore Rosie Bird
sit atop Bryant's scoring output as both have six points in seven games. Bird
has a team-leading three goals, while Ballantyne has four of the Bulldog's six
total assists in 2012. Junior keeper Megan Hancock has played all 490 minutes
in the goal, posting impressive figures in both save percentage (.767) and
goals-against average (2.43). The Bulldogs have never defeated the Green and
White in five all-time meetings between the two programs.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
Dartmouth hosted Bryant last fall, a game that served as an informal
introduction for the rest of the league to then-freshman forward Ali Savage (Orange, New South Wales, Australia).
Savage scored three times in the 5-3 win, recording her first collegiate hat
trick. The Big Green dominated the afternoon, getting out to a 5-0 lead and
outshooting the Bulldogs, 38-6, en route to their fourth win of the season.
MASINI STRIKES AGAIN
Senior
co-captain Lisa Masini (Ann Arbor, Mich.) broke her team's stretch of 215:35
without a goal when she redirected a ball into the back of the cage in the 58th
minute of play Saturday in Princeton. The tally, Masini's third of the fall,
snapped the span without a marker dating back to Sept. 2 at home against
Northeastern.
LEGER ON THE BOARD
Sophomore
Janine Leger (Johannesburg, South Africa) got on the scoring sheet for the
first time in 2012 with an assist on Saturday. Leger, an All-Ivy Honorable
Mention Player as a freshman last year, was responsible for getting the ball
onto Masini's stick that resulted in the Big Green's goal against the Tigers.
70 FOR THE FIRST TIME
For the first time this season, a Dartmouth goalkeeper went the distance in
a game when senior Jenna Stearns (Thornton, N.H.) played all 70 minutes of
action in the Ivy League opener. Stearns turned aside seven shots in the game
as the Princeton attack kept coming all afternoon, finishing the game with 27
shots in all.
COMING UP
It
won't be too long a wait for the team to get back out on the field again as
Brown comes to Hanover on Saturday. The Big Green's Ivy League home opener is
set to begin Saturday at noon from Chase Field.
