THIS WEEKEND
After playing just one game last week, Dartmouth women's hockey will return to Thompson Arena on Friday and Saturday for back-to-back games against ECAC Hockey rivals Union and Rennsselaer. All three teams will open ECAC Hockey play this weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green opened their 2014-15 regular season in a big way Sunday afternoon against in-state foe New Hampshire, cruising to a 6-2 victory on home ice. Lindsay Allen and Kennedy Ottenbreit led with two goals apiece, while Laura Stacey had one goal and tallied three helpers throughout the afternoon. Of the six goals scored by the home team, four came on the power play. Dartmouth was 4-for-5 with the extra skater, while its penalty kill held the Wildcats to 0-for-2 with the man-advantage.
SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN
In its eight games so far during 2014-15, Union has claimed just one win, a 1-0 victory over UConn on Oct. 11. Most recently, the Dutchwomen suffered back-to-back losses to Vermont, falling by a score of 4-0 on both Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25.
LAST TIME vs. UNION
After falling to the Dutchwomen for the first time in program history last November, the Green returned to the ice with a vengeance on Jan. 25, 2014. Trailing 3-2 midway through the final period, Dartmouth capitalized on a Union penalty to tie the score on a power play. Emma Korbs fired a shot from the point that was stopped by goalie Shenae Lundberg and the rebound was sent directly to Ottenbreit, who was also denied. Allen knocked home the loose puck to tie things up. Five minutes later, Allen netted her second of the game to clinch the win.
CHECKING UP ON THE ENGINEERS
Similar to Union, Rensselaer has just one victory on their schedule, a 4-1 win against UConn last Saturday. When the Engineers faced the Huskies again the following afternoon, the two teams tied at two in overtime. The night before arriving in Hanover, RPI will make a stop in Cambridge to face Harvard.
LAST TIME vs. RPI
On Jan. 24 at home, Allen broke a 1-1 tie just under seven minutes into the third period to lead the Upper Valley squad to a come-from-behind, 2-1 victory. This was the fourth consecutive game that the game-winning goal had been scored by Allen.
HUDAK AND COMPANY
Having been with the Big Green women's hockey team since the 2003-04 season, Hudak has compiled a record of 205-109-28 in his 11 seasons. His accomplishments with the team include two Ivy League titles, two ECAC Tournament titles, one ECAC regular season title, six NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Four showings. On the bench, Hudak is joined by associate head coach Holley Tyng, who is entering her 10th season with the team, and assistant coach Josh Liegl, who returns to the Big Green coaching staff for his third year.
CAPTAINS
The Green and White are led by captain Karlee Odland and alternate captains Morgan Illikainen and Catherine Berghuis. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that just one player will wear the 'C'. Odland appeared in 23 games last season, registering 13 points on four goals and nine assists. Illikainen appeared in all 30 games as a junior, while Berghuis scored three goals and had 10 points in her second season with the team.
FRESH FACES
Four freshmen were added to the roster for the upcoming season. The talented group consists of forwards Brooke Ahbe, Elena Horton and Morgan Turner and defenseman Hailey Noronha. ¬Ahbe was selected to the United States U18 National team that won silver at the U18 World Championships in Hungary this past year, while Noronha was a two-time member of the Canada U18 National Team that won gold in Budapest in March. Horton and Turner's teams have both played at the USA National Championships.
AND IN NET…
Debuting this season as the Green's starting goalie, Robyn Chemago started things off strongly with 18 saves in the game against McGill and 22 against UNH. On Sunday, she was one of the players to have a hand in Stacey's goal, becoming the first Big Green goalie to be credited with an assist since Carli Clemis in 2008.
LAST SEASON
Eventual national champion Clarkson swept Dartmouth out of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals, 2-0. The Big Green ended their season with an overall record of 9-20-1 and 8-13-1 in conference play.
SKATE WITH THE BIG GREEN
After this weekend's games are over, there will be an opportunity to skate with the members of the Dartmouth women's hockey team at Thompson Arena. The free event will take place on Sunday, Nov. 2 from 10:30-11:30 and is open to all children.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Green and White will face St. Lawrence twice in the next two weeks, first in Rochester on Saturday, Nov. 8 and again on Friday, Nov. 14. The following day, Dartmouth will play defending national champion, Clarkson.
