HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth volleyball team dropped its first Ivy League game of the season in three straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) to Yale, on Saturday evening at Leede Arena.
The loss puts the Big Green at 11-3 overall and 2-1 in Ivy League play. Yale picks up its first league win after falling to Harvard last night in Cambridge.
“We didn't execute today against a really good Yale program,” head coach Erin Lindsay said. “Our inability to follow the game plan hurt us and put us in a tough position.”
Dartmouth had an early lead in the first set, 12-10, but from them on Yale led the rest of the way.
In the second set, the Big Green got as close as 12-11, but Yale used a 7-1 run put the game out of reach, eventually earning the 25-18 advantage. Dartmouth scored the first point in the final set on a kill by senior Alex Schoenberger. Junior Kaira Lujan 's kill gave the team a 4-3 lead but a service error by junior Paige Caridi shifted momentum back to Yale. The Bulldogs finished the contest on a 10-4 run.
Mollie Rodgers led the Bulldogs with 21 kills on 47 attacks and Maya Midzik added 10 kills.
Leading the way for the Big Green on the night was sophomore Emily Astarita, who finished with eight kills. Classmate Molly Kornfeind posted six kills and nine digs. Freshman Julia Lau tied for the game high with 14 digs and Caridi added 11, as the duo secured half of Dartmouth's total.
Junior Kayden Cook and sophomore Stacy Benton combined for 27 of Dartmouth's 28 assists as Cook led the team with 18. Kelsey Crawford led the Buldogs with 35.
Dartmouth will hit the road next weekend, travelling to Columbia on Friday and Cornell on Saturday.
