NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Charles Cai finished tied for second carding a Dartmouth-best one-over-par 141 at the 14-team Macdonald Cup on Sunday at the Yale Golf Course.
Weather played a factor over the weekend, as the two-day event was shortened after golfers failed to finish one full round on Saturday due to heavy rain. Golfers were originally slated to play 36 holes yesterday and 18 on Sunday, but The Macdonald Cup was adjusted in light of the conditions.
The unfinished golfers continued their first rounds on Sunday and played 18 more holes thereafter —all the scores reflect two rounds of play in total. The Yale Golf Course is a par-70, 6,789-yard course.
Yale captured the Macdonald Cup after shooting a 9-over par 569 to finish one shot ahead of Harvard, which finished second with a 10-over par 570.
Dartmouth finished fifth (585) shooting a 301 in the first round and then an improved 284 in the final round. The Big Green's second-round score was the fourth lowest of the 14 teams in the event.
Princeton's Eric Mitchell was the top medalist scoring a two-under 138. Cai tied seven other performers for second place shooting a 141. Freshman Edric Wung finished tied for 24th with seven other golfers, which also included sophomore Sean Fahey. The 24th place octet all finished eight-over par (148).
Freshman Ian Kelsey (43rd) and senior Charlie Edler (49th) rounded out the Big Green quintet. Kelsey shot an 11-over par (151) and Edler finished 13-over par (153).
The Big Green will conclude the fall schedule at the Duke Invitational next weekend.
