THIS WEEKEND
After taking two weeks off following road games in New York, the Big Green women's hockey team will return to action two days after Thanksgiving to host the Boston University Terriers, playing on home ice for the first time in almost a month.
LAST TIME OUT
While traveling through the Empire State on Nov. 14-15, Dartmouth fell to ECAC Hockey rivals St. Lawrence (2-1) and No. 7 Clarkson (3-0). After defeating the Saints the following weekend by a score of 5-1, the Green struggled to score, finding the back of the net just once thanks to Laura Stacey with 1:20 left in the game. The next day against defending national champion Clarkson, the Big Green had a number of opportunities to score, but were thwarted by the Golden Knights' netminder, Shea Tiley, who recorded 24 saves.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
Boston University has had a good start to its season, dropping just three of its 12 games to strong teams such as Minnesota, Maine and Northeastern. Most recently, the Terriers had a 1-1 tie against Harvard on Nov. 21 and a 6-2 victory over New Hampshire two days after that. They have not lost a game since they fell to Northeastern by a score of 6-3 on Nov. 11. As of this week, Boston University is ranked fifth in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national poll and sixth in the USCHO national poll.
LAST TIME AGAINST BU
On Jan. 14, 2014, Dartmouth were defeated by BU on the road, twice battling back from one-goal deficits before falling by a score of 3-2. The Terriers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead three minutes into play as Rebecca Russo found the back of the net. Just over two minutes later, the Big Green tied the game when Karlee Odland potted her third tally of the season. Late in the first stanza, Boston University stole back the momentum as Maddie Elia scored, but Dartmouth fought back to tie things up five and a half minutes into the second period with a goal by Kennedy Ottenbreit. Less than three minutes later, Sarah Lefort netted the game-winner for the Terriers. In net, Robyn Chemago made 28 saves, including the final 12 shots that were sent her way.
NATIONAL RANKING
On Monday, Nov. 10, after receiving votes the week before, Dartmouth appeared on the USCHO national poll for the first time since Feb. 11, 2012, earning the No. 10 ranking.
ECAC HOCKEY STANDINGS
After handing Clarkson its first conference loss on Nov. 22 and defeating Princeton a few days later, Quinnipiac now sits atop the list with a record of 6-0-1, while the Golden Knights have slipped to second with a 5-1-1 mark. The Bobcats are the only team to remain undefeated in ECAC Hockey play. The Big Green are currently seventh with four points.
HUDAK & CO.
Having been with the Big Green women's hockey team since the 2003-04 season, Hudak has compiled a record of 209-111-28 as he continues through his 12th season. His accomplishments with the team include two Ivy League titles, two ECAC Tournament titles, one ECAC regular-season title, six NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Four showings. On the bench, Hudak is joined by associate head coach Holley Tyng, who is in her 10th season with the team, and assistant coach Josh Liegl, who returns to the Big Green coaching staff for his third year.
CAPTAINS
The Green and White are led by captain Odland, and alternate captains Morgan Illikainen and Catherine Berghuis. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that just one player will wear the 'C'. So far in the 2014-15 season, Odland leads with two goals and three assists for five points. Berghuis has netted one and two helpers, and Illikainen has tallied one assist.
LEADING THE WAY
With her four goals and five assists, Stacey leads the Big Green with nine points. Lindsey Allen is Dartmouth's leading goal-scorer with six markers.
FRESH FACES
Four freshmen were added to the roster at the start of the season. The talented group consists of forwards Brooke Ahbe, Elena Horton and Morgan Turner, and defenseman Hailey Noronha. Ahbe was selected to the United States U18 National team that won silver at the U18 World Championships in Hungary this past year, while Noronha was a two-time member of the Canada U18 National Team that won gold in Budapest in March. Horton and Turner's teams have both played at the USA National Championships. Since first donning the Green and White uniform less than a month ago, Turner has netted one goal and Noronha leads the group with three assists.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Starting netminder Chemago totaled 21 saves against St. Lawrence on Friday and 25 against Clarkson on Saturday. With a record of 4-2-0, she sports a .936 save percentage and 1.51 goals against average, allowing just nine goals so far this season. She has stopped 83-of-88 shots that have been sent her way.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR DARTMOUTH?
Next week will be a busy one for the Big Green. On Tuesday, Dec. 2, Dartmouth will take to the road for a 7 p.m. Ivy League game against Harvard and, over the weekend, it will host Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. on Friday and Princeton at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
