THIS WEEKEND
With three home games under its belt, the Dartmouth women's hockey team will hit the road for the first time this season for a neutral-site, non-conference game against fellow ECAC Hockey member St. Lawrence in Rochester, New York. This is the first of three scheduled meetings between the two teams, who will play again the following Friday, this time at the Saints' home rink in Canton.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth went 2-0 at its first two-game weekend of the year, shutting out Union on Friday, 3-0, before defeating RPI by a score of 5-2 the following afternoon. Against the Dutchwomen, Emma Korbs, Lindsey Allen and Morgan Turner led the team, while the Big Green outshot the opponent, 45-13. In its over the Engineers on Saturday, Laura Stacey had the first and last Dartmouth goals, while Catherine Berghuis had two assists and a goal of her own. After having a safe 2-0 lead heading into the second period, things soon became interesting when a combined three markers occurred in a seven-minute span, but a two-goal third stanza gave the Big Green the win. Both RPI goals were credited to Mariana Walsh. In net, Robyn Chemago had 19 saves.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Unlike Dartmouth, St. Lawrence is well into its season, sporting a record of 4-4-1 so far. The Saints had a busy week, playing three road games and wrapping things up with a record of 1-2. They suffered a 5-0 loss to Clarkson in their third meeting with the Golden Knights before shutting out Yale, 3-0. They ended the weekend by falling, 7-4, to Brown. The first two meetings between St. Lawrence and Clarkson occurred on Oct. 3-4, when the Saints defeated #7/8 ranked Clarkson, 5-3 on Friday before falling, 2-1, the next day.
LAST TIME vs. ST. LAWRENCE
On Valentine's Day 2014 at Thompson Arena, Dartmouth jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but St. Lawrence rallied to score four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 triumph in ECAC Hockey action. In net, Lindsay Holdcroft had 17 saves, while the Saints' Carmen MacDonald posted 31.
ECAC HOCKEY STANDINGS
Now that every ECAC Hockey member has started competing, the standings are going to be constantly changing for the first few weeks of action. Sitting at the top is Clarkson with a conference record of 3-0-0, while Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and Quinnipiac all fall in line directly behind with marks of 2-0-0. They are the only five schools that remain undefeated after just one week of play.
HUDAK & CO.
Having been with the Big Green women's hockey team since the 2003-04 season, Hudak has compiled a record of 208-109-28 in his 11 seasons. His accomplishments with the team include two Ivy League titles, two ECAC Tournament titles, one ECAC regular season title, six NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Four showings. On the bench, Hudak is joined by associate head coach Holley Tyng, who is in her 10th season with the team, and assistant coach Josh Liegl, who returns to the Big Green coaching staff for his third year.
CAPTAINS
The Green and White are led by captain Karlee Odland, and alternate captains Morgan Illikainen and Berghuis. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that just one player will wear the 'C'. In the newly started 2014-15 season, all three have appeared in every game so far, with Odland and Berghuis scoring one goal and two helpers each, and Illikainen tallying an assist.
LEADING THE WAY
With her three goals and four assists, Stacey leads the Big Green with seven points. She has scored at least one point in each of the three games so far this season.
FRESH FACES
Four freshmen were added to the roster for the upcoming season. The talented group consists of forwards Brooke Ahbe, Elena Horton and Morgan Turner, and defenseman Hailey Noronha. Since first donning the Green and White uniform less than a month ago, Turner has one goal scored and Noronha leads the group with her two assists.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
After recording her first career assist last week against New Hampshire, Chemago was back in action this week with two more strong performances. She shutout Union on Friday, totaling 13 saves and, on Saturday, allowed two goals and stopped 19 shots. So far this season, she has stopped 54-of-58 shots, and has a .931 save percentage and 1.33 goals against average
