CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The No. 11 Dartmouth men's squash team opened up the 2014-15 season on the road at No. 1 Harvard on Tuesday evening and fell to the Crimson, 7-2.
Dartmouth sophomore Glen Brickman and freshman John Harvey picked up wins in their individual games. Brickman, competing in the eighth position, defeated Sachin Patel, 13-11, 11-7, 11-7 and tied the overall match 2-2. In the ninth spot, Harvey's win over Peter Janulis, 11-4, 11-7, 11-7, put the Big Green ahead 1-0.
In the second round of matches, junior James Fisch (sixth) forced a fifth game against Tyler Olson. Fisch won the second and fourth games, but eventually bowed out 11-8, 3-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8.
In the final round of matches, Dartmouth needed a clean sweep in order to knock off the top team in the league. However, the trio of junior Kyle Martino, sophomore Nicholas Harrington and freshman Brian Giegerich all fought hard but couldn't quite regain the team's momentum and succumbed to their opponents.
The opener showed promise for the Big Green who will host Navy and Trinity over the weekend.
