Men's Heavyweight Rowing
at Head of the Charles

12/23/2014 10:56:00 AM | Field Hockey, Men's Ice Hockey, Women's Lacrosse, Athletics, Men's Heavyweight Rowing
This is part two of DartmouthSports.com's five-part series highlighting 20 of the best moments from varsity student-athletes during the 2014 calendar year. These games, plays and events were selected by a group of individuals within the athletics department.
Due to the number of Dartmouth varsity programs, it was determined that a team may have no more than one highlight. While not every team is represented within this list, there was an effort made to include as many of the 34 varsity programs as possible.
This is not a countdown and there is no order to the events as they appear in this series. Its purpose is to highlight some of the tremendous accomplishments of Big Green student-athletes and teams during 2014.
Part 1: Dec. 22 | Part 2: Dec. 23 | Part 3: Dec. 29 | Part 4: Dec. 30 | Dec. 31
Heavyweight Crew Wins Packard Cup – May 9
Dartmouth won three of the four events during the regatta against national power Syracuse, as all four races were determined by mere seconds. For the Big Green, it was just the second win in nine years in the oldest continuously active heavyweight competition for the heavyweight crew team.
Field Hockey Stuns Holy Cross With Late Goal and OT Win – Oct. 13
Freshman Anna Ewasechko tied the game as regulation expired on a corner play and senior Ali Savage scored 2:04 into overtime for one of her five game-winning goals of 2014 to give Dartmouth a 5-4 victory against visiting non-conference Holy Cross on Columbus Day. Ewasechko's game-tying goal as time expired was also the first tally of her career; while Savage's goal in OT was her second such marker of the season.
Men's Hockey Ousts RPI With Historic Comeback – Mar. 9
The Dartmouth men's hockey team had not won a game when trailing after two periods of play in more than two years. That streak ended in dramatic fashion on a Sunday night in Troy, New York, as Eric Neiley, Brandon McNally and Brad Schierhorn all scored in the final frame to erase a two-goal deficit and help propel the Green to the next round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament with a 5-4 win. The victory came in the third and decisive game of the first-round series with the Engineers; a series in which Dartmouth trailed 1-0 and rallied back to stave off elimination for another week.
Women's Lacrosse Storms Back at Brown for Memorable Comeback – Mar. 29
Brown held a 5-0 lead in the final minutes of the first half, but a fevered comeback capped by a goal from Liz Calby '14 with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation helped the Big Green earn a 10-9 Ivy League victory in Providence. For Calby, the winner was her fourth goal and sixth point of the afternoon, while Jaclyn Leto also chipped in with three goals and four points of her own.
