THIS WEEK
After being at Harvard on Tuesday, Dartmouth returns to Thompson Arena for a pair of home games over the weekend. The Big Green will host No. 4/4 Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. on Friday and Princeton at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
Facing its first Ivy League rival of the season, the Upper Valley squad fell to No. 7/10 Harvard in the Bright-Landry Hockey Center by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday evening. Freshman Brooke Ahbe scored Dartmouth's lone goal of the night and her first collegiate marker, tying the game at one just minutes after Miye D'Oench opened scoring early in the first period. Junior Catherine Berghuis fired at the net out near the blueline, but was thwarted by Emerance Maschmeyer's kneepads, which sent the puck to the right of the net. Ahbe acted quickly, slipping the puck just past Maschmeyer's foot and into the back of the net. Berghuis earned the assist and, like Ahbe, ended the day with a point. The Crimson outshot the Green, 69-47. Sophomore netminder Robyn Chemago had a career-high 38 saves, while Maschmeyer stopped 27 shots.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac is the only unbeaten ECAC Hockey team, sporting a record of 13-0-2 overall and 6-0-1 in conference action. Most recently, the Bobcats defeated defending national champion Clarkson for the second time in a week, handing the Golden Knights a 3-1 loss on Nov. 29. The day before, Quinnipiac had a 5-2 victory over Yale on the road. Currently leading the team is rookie Taylor Cianfarano with eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. Nicole Connery is close behind with seven markers and five helpers to total 12 points. The No. 4/4 team will play just two games in December, facing No. 7/7 Harvard the night before arriving in Hanover.
LAST TIME AGAINST QUINNIPIAC
Playing on the road on Jan. 31, 2014, the Green and White were defeated by the Bobcats, 3-1, snapping a season-high three-game winning streak. After a scoreless first period, Dartmouth got on the board first at 11:58 in the second period when Emma Korbs scored her first collegiate tally. The Green held the lead for nearly the remainder of the period before Quinnipiac's Emma Woods knotted the tilt at one with 43 ticks left in the second stanza. The Bobcats' Morgan Fritz-Ward scored the eventual game winner at 3:14 in the final period, while Nicole Connery gave QU some breathing room later in the period with her fifth marker of the season.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
As of Nov. 30, the Tigers were on a five-game losing streak following losses to No. 2 Minnesota (2-1, 5-2), Quinnipiac (2-0), Clarkson (3-2) and St. Lawrence (7-3). Princeton's last victory was a 3-2 overtime win over Union at home on Nov. 14. Kelsey Koelzer leads the team with three goals and nine helpers for 12 points and Molly Contini is close behind with 11 points from six goals and five assists.
LAST TIME vs. THE TIGERS
A late third-period rally fell short for Dartmouth on Feb. 1 as Dartmouth dropped a close game, 3-2, to Princeton. Trailing by two goals late in the third, the Green pulled within one as Eleni Tebano scored on the power play. With less than three minutes left in regulation, the Green were called for a pair of penalties. Trailing, 3-2, Dartmouth caught a break as netminder Kimberly Newell was whistled for high sticking. With an empty net and the extra attacker, the Big Green's last-ditch effort fell by the wayside as a pass from the corner went untouched and out of the offensive zone as time expired.
NATIONAL RANKING
On Monday, Nov. 10, after receiving votes the week before, Dartmouth appeared on the USCHO national poll for the first time since Feb. 11, 2012, earning the No. 10 ranking.
ECAC HOCKEY STANDINGS
Since all teams that competed over the weekend faced non-conference opponents, the ECAC Hockey standings are the same as they were the week before. After handing Clarkson its first loss of the season on Nov. 22 and defeating Princeton a few days later, Quinnipiac remains atop the standings with a record of 6-0-1, while the Golden Knights have slipped to second with a 5-1-1 mark. The Bobcats are the only team to remain undefeated in conference play. The Big Green are currently seventh with four points.
HUDAK & CO.
Having been with the Big Green women's hockey team since the 2003-04 season, Mark Hudak has compiled a record of 209-113-28 as he continues through his 12th season. His accomplishments with the team include two Ivy League titles, two ECAC Tournament titles, one ECAC regular-season title, six NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Four showings. On the bench, Hudak is joined by associate head coach Holley Tyng, who is in her 10th season with the team, and assistant coach Josh Liegl, who returns to the Big Green coaching staff for his third year.
CAPTAINS
The Green and White are led by captain Karlee Odland, and alternate captains Illikainen and Catherine Berghuis. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that just one player will wear the 'C'. So far in the 2014-15 season, Odland leads with two goals and three assists for five points. Berghuis has netted one and three helpers, and Illikainen has tallied two assists.
LEADING THE WAY
With her five goals and six assists, Laura Stacey leads the Big Green with 11 points. Allen is Dartmouth's leading goal-scorer with seven markers, while Tebano has a team-leading six helpers.
FRESH FACES
Four freshmen were added to the roster at the start of the season. The talented group consists of forwards Brooke Ahbe, Elena Horton and Morgan Turner, and defenseman Hailey Noronha. Ahbe was selected to the United States U18 National team that won silver at the U18 World Championships in Hungary this past year, while Noronha was a two-time member of the Canada U18 National Team that won gold in Budapest in March. Horton and Turner's teams have both played at the USA National Championships. Since first donning the Green and White uniform less than a month ago, Turner and Ahbe have each netted one goal, Horton has tallied one assist and Noronha leads the group with three helpers.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
At Harvard, Chemago had a career-high 38 saves while allowing four goals. The sophomore netminder is currently 4-4-0 in the cage after playing every minute so far this season. She has allowed 17 goals, stopped 191 shots, and has a save percentage of .918 and 2.13 goals against average.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR DARTMOUTH?
Dartmouth will host one more game during the 2014 portion of the season. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, No. 1 Boston College will come to Hanover for a 7 p.m. game.
