BOSTON – Saturday's appropriately named 'BU Season Opener' was just that for the Dartmouth men's track & field team as it took to action for the first time in the 2014-15 season.
Competing at the non-scoring meet at the BU Track & Tennis Center, the Big Green were paced by several strong showings to start the season.
Phil Gomez's narrow win in the 500m race was the highlight of the day, edging out teammate Jules Hislop by less than half a second. Gomez crossed in 1:06.00, while Hislop was directly behind and credited with a 1:06.48.
Both Alex Frye (8.55) and Ben Colello (8.60) reached the finals of the 60m hurdles where they took fifth and sixth, respectively. In the 200m, Brett Buskey began his season with a 22.65 to take seventh overall in a field of more than 30 individuals.
Joe Carey claimed second in the 1000m in 2:34.46, less than a second behind the winner from Boston College.
Off the track and in the infield, Dartmouth also saw successes at BU. Dom Filiano took third in the shot put as his sixth and final throw of the day was measured at 53-2.25/16.21m and was good for third place.
Max Cosculluela started his campaign off the right way by clearing 14-11.50/4.56m on his first attempt in the pole vault, solidifying a second-place showing.
Frye also performed well in the high jump as he also claimed a second-place individual finish with a clearing height of 6-6.75/2.00m to his credit.
