MERCER LAKE, N.J. – The Dartmouth men's heavyweight and lightweight rowing squads completed the IRA National Championship on Sunday to cap off a pair of successful seasons.
After advancing to the semifinals of the second varsity eight, the Big Green picked up a big first-place victory in the third leg of the heat, defeating Syracuse, Stanford, Columbia, San Diego and Hobart in 6:28.23. The Big Green then advanced to the third level, where they won in 5:48.13, defeating Syracuse, Harvard, Stanford, Drexel and Gonzaga.
In the third varsity eight, the Big Green placed fourth in the first semifinal heat in 6:05.30 ahead of Syracuse and Navy. In the Petite Final, the Green and White finished fourth, narrowly defeating Syracuse by 0.02 seconds (6:02.20 to 6:02.22).
In the varsity eight semifinal third heat, Dartmouth finished fifth in 6:30.63, three seconds ahead of Holy Cross and advanced to the fourth level, where they placed fourth in 5:58.93.
The lightweight varsity eight finished sixth in the Grand Final in 6:00.70 after securing a third-place spot in the second heat. The Varsity Four finished sixth in the second heat in 6:47.41 and was scratched from the Petite Final.
