PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth field hockey team opened the 2014 Ivy League campaign with a 4-0 defeat at the hands No. 20 Princeton at Bedford Field Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers — the league's nine-time defending champions — picked up their first win of the season (1-4), while pushing the Big Green's stretch without a victory to open the season to five (0-5).

Princeton's Teresa Benvenuti scored her first goal of the season in the eighth minute to open the scoring. She would go on to add two more assists in the game for a four-point day.
Maddie Copeland also added four points for the home team as she netted a pair of markers in the 13th and 26th minutes, respectively, to push the Princeton lead to 3-0 at the half.
Cat Caro's first of the fall wrapped up the score in the 41st minute. Caro also chipped in with a helper on Copeland's second of the day as the trio of Tigers combined for all of their team's 11 points.
Dartmouth senior goalkeeper Ellen Meyer turned aside six shots on target in the game and was aided by defensive saves from sophomore Heather Zezzo and freshman Sarah Tabeek as well. At the other end of the field, Princeton's Anya Gersoff stopped all three shots she faced for the shutout.
For the Big Green, it was the second straight game the team was held without a goal after dropping a 2-0 decision at Northeastern last Friday in their most recent outing.
In all, the home team held a 22-6 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.
Dartmouth returns to action next weekend with a pair of home games at Chase Field. The Green will host Brown on Saturday at noon with a 2 p.m. contest the following afternoon against non-conference Bryant.
