EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 15 Louisville field hockey team used a goal early in the opening half and another in the final minutes of regulation to edge Dartmouth, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Northwestern's Lakeside Field.
Facing their second ranked opponent in as many days, the Big Green (0-2) held the Cardinals (3-0) to their lowest goal total of the season after Louisville had amassed 15 tallies in its first two games.

Dartmouth was able to bounce back after a 9-3 defeat Friday to No. 14 Northwestern with a more well-rounded effort Saturday in the neutral-site matchup with the Cardinals.
Senior goalkeeper Ellen Meyer turned aside 13 shots, matching her career high that she reached twice last season against both Harvard and Yale.
However, despite Meyer's best effort to keep her team in the game, Louisville was able to beat the Big Green keeper 10 minutes into the contest as Elisa Garcia finished off a corner play with what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Shannon Sloss netted the insurance marker for the Cardinals in the 69th minute, knocking home a rebound after another penalty corner attempt.
Senior Janine Leger and freshman Laura Donald also chipped in in their own end of the field as both were credited with defensive saves, stopping what would be sure-goals while positioned behind Meyer.
Louisville keeper Sydney King made five saves in earning the shutout.
The Cardinals outshot Dartmouth, 25-18, in the game, including a 16-0 margin the second half. Several chances came via the penalty corner — an area that Louisville held a 10-4 advantage.
The Big Green return to the Upper Valley to begin the home portion of the 2014 season, opening up at Chase Field Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. against Pacific. The Tigers were 2-0 in Hanover with the Big Green out of town, using the Dartmouth field hockey facility for two neutral-site games against Vermont (2-1) and Appalachian State (6-1).
