THIS WEEK
The Dartmouth women's hockey team will play just one game this week, welcoming Ivy League and ECAC Hockey rival Harvard to Hanover for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green had a strong weekend on the road, winning games against conference foes Rensselaer and Union. On Friday, a hat trick by Kennedy Ottenbreit lifted the team past RPI, 3-0. The Grayson, Saskatchewan native opened scoring with 17 seconds remaining in the first period and tacked on two more in the final stanza. Dartmouth went 2-for-4 on the power play and held the Engineers to 0-for-5. The following day, the Green and White handed Union a 3-1 loss to complete the weekend. Zoe Brennan broke the 0-0 tie at 2:55 in the third period, but Union scored the equalizer less than 12 minutes later at the hands of Erica Kelly, tying things up, once again, with just 4:19 left in the period. Less than three minutes after the Dutchwomen's lone goal, Ottenbreit scored the eventual game winner after a pass from Laura Stacey at 18:34. After Union pulled their goalie, Samantha Zeiss scored the final marker of the afternoon. Robyn Chemago ended the weekend with 34 saves and registered her second career shutout against the Engineers.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
No. 5/5 Harvard is currently on a 10-game winning streak after scoring four goals for the fourth straight game to down New Hampshire, 4-1, on Wednesday. The Crimson defense shined, killing off four UNH power plays and holding the Wildcats to just 20 shots. Two players currently lead the Crimson with 17 points. Miye D'Oench has scored nine goals and eight assists, while Mary Parker has six markers and 11 helpers.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
Playing its first Ivy League rival of the 2014-15 season, Dartmouth fell to No. 7/10 Harvard in the Bright-Landry Hockey Center, 4-1, on Dec. 2. Brooke Ahbe scored the Green's lone goal of the night and her first collegiate marker, tying the game at one just minutes after D'Oench opened scoring early in the first period. The Crimson went on to score three more times to take the win. Chemago ended the night with a career-high 38 saves, while Emerance Maschmeyer, who won her first game of the year, stopped 27 shots.
ECAC HOCKEY STANDINGS
Quinnipiac holds on to the top spot in the conference with an 11-1-2 mark after a 3-0 win over Brown and a 4-1 defeat of Yale over the weekend. Harvard – the only team to have marred the Bobcats' near perfect record so far this season – remain in second with a 9-1-1 mark, while Clarkson is third with a 7-2-2 record. After winning three of the last four conference games it has played, Dartmouth has moved up to seventh with a record of 5-5-1, moving ahead of Yale, who fell to both Princeton and Quinnipiac by scores of 4-1 last weekend. Below the Bulldogs are RPI, Brown, Colgate and Union.
HUDAK & CO.
Having been with the Big Green women's hockey team since the 2003-04 season, Mark Hudak has compiled a record of 214-117-29 as he continues through his 12th season. His accomplishments with the team include two Ivy League titles, two ECAC Tournament titles, one ECAC regular-season title, six NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Four showings. On the bench, Hudak is joined by associate head coach Holley Tyng, who is in her 10th season with the team, and assistant coach Josh Liegl, who returns to the Big Green coaching staff for his third year.
CAPTAINS
The Green and White are led by captain Karlee Odland, and alternate captains Illikainen and Catherine Berghuis. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that just one player is wearing the 'C'. So far in the 2014-15 season, Odland leads with seven goals and six assists for 13 points. Illikainen has netted three goals and five assists, while Berghuis has two goals and five helpers of her own.
LEADING THE WAY
Following a four-goal weekend, Ottenbreit has now taken over the top spot on the team with her 19 points on nine goal and nine assists. Lindsey Allen leads the Big Green with 13 goals and, paired with four helpers, sits directly behind Ottenbreit with 17 points.
FRESH FACES
Four freshmen were added to the roster at the start of the season. The talented group consists of forwards Brooke Ahbe, Elena Horton and Morgan Turner, and defenseman Hailey Noronha. Ahbe was selected to the United States U18 National team that won silver at the U18 World Championships in Hungary this past year, while Noronha was a two-time member of the Canada U18 National Team that won gold in Budapest in March. Horton and Turner's teams have both played at the USA National Championships. Since first donning the Green and White uniform in October, Turner has netted one goal, Horton has tallied one assist and Ahbe has one goal and assist under her belt. Noronha leads the group with four helpers.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
In Dartmouth's 2-0 weekend, Chemago allowed just one goal and made 34 saves. On Friday, she stopped 20 shots to earn her second shutout this season in a 3-0 victory at Rensselaer, before making 14 saves in the 3-1 win against Union the following day. Chemago finished the weekend with a .971 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average and was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week on Tuesday for the first time in her career for her performances over the weekend. The Slave Lake, Alberta, native has started and played every minute of the team's 18 games so far this season, helping the Green achieve a record of 9-7-1 and 5-5-1 in conference play. In that time, she has stopped 373-of-415 shots, allowed 42 goals, has a save percentage of .899 and a 2.46 goals against average.
