THIS WEEKEND
After a fortnight away from competition, the Dartmouth women's hockey team will hit the road for just the second time this season, heading to the Badger State to take on No. 1 Wisconsin in a pair of games Friday and Saturday. These two contests will be the first of five consecutive away games for the Green.
LAST TIME OUT
Rewind two weeks and Dartmouth was coming off two ECAC Hockey shutouts at Thompson Arena, taking down Rensselaer, 4-0, on Friday, Nov. 13, before defeating Union, 2-0, the next afternoon. Against the Engineers, Lindsey Allen, Kennedy Ottenbreit and Hailey Noronha all ended the night with two points apiece, while four other Dartmouth players picked up one point. Allen got the game winner at 17:05 in the first, Ottenbreit scored the Green's first short handed goal of the season 12:59 into the second period, and Ailish Forfar and Brooke Ahbe found the back of the net at 5:19 and 13:53 respectively, in the third. Between the pipes, Robyn Chemago had 21 saves in the victory. The next day, Allen had her second game winner of the weekend, scoring her sixth of the year 32 seconds into the second period. Forfar added an empty netter at 18:39 in the third to end the game. Chemago earned her second shutout of the weekend and her third of the season with her nine saves.
SCOUTING WISCONSIN
The Badgers are going to be a tough opponent. The number one team in the country in both the USCHO.com and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls for the past three weeks, the Badgers are one of just two teams in the nation that remain undefeated (the other being No. 2 Boston College with a 15-0-0 mark). In 14 games, Wisconsin has recorded 10 shutouts and has allowed just five goals all season. The Badgers did not allow a single goal from Oct. 10 through Nov. 13, having their streak cut short in a 4-2 victory over Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 14. Annie Pankowski leads the team (and is sixth in the country) with her 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points. In net, Ann-Renee Desblens leads the country with her 181 saves, .973 save percentage and .429 goals against average.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BADGERS
On March 14, 2009, the Big Green met top-ranked Wisconsin in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Madison after claiming the ECAC Hockey title the weekend before. Dartmouth outshot Wisconsin, but the Badgers came out on top, 7-0.
LEADING THE WAY
With her two goals against RPI and Union, Allen is now first on the team with nine points (6G, 3A). Ottenbreit (4G, 4A) and senior Laura Stacey (2G, 6A) are right behind with eight points apiece.
AND IN NET…
Chemago performed well against the Engineers and the Dutchwomen and did not allow a single goal in either game. In 410 minutes of action so far this season, she has made 139 saves while allowing just seven goals. She has a .952 save percentage and 1.02 goals against average. In the conference, she is second in both goals against average and save percentage and is third in win percentage (.714). In the nation, she is third in goals against. Christie Honor has seen time in net during her first season with the Big Green, appearing between the pipes for 77 minutes. She has made 17 saves, has a .708 percentage and 5.43 goals against average. Dartmouth's third goaltender this season is Shannon Ropp, who has not yet entered a game.
ECAC HOCKEY AWARDS
For the second time in the past three weeks, Chemago was named the ECAC Hockey Women's Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league office on Nov. 17. She earned a pair of shutouts against RPI (4-0) and Union (2-0), stopping a combined 30 shots throughout the weekend. This is the third time in her career that she has been honored by the conference.
100 GAMES AND COUNTING
After this weekend, two Dartmouth players will be the first members of the Class of 2016 to have reached 100 career games. Allen will be the first to reach that mark, as she is currently sitting at 99 contests, while co-captain Catherine Berghuis is right behind her with 98. Soon to join the club will be Olivia Whitford (95), Zoe Brennan (93) and Stacey (89).
