POTSDAM, N.Y. – After playing evenly throughout the early parts of the contest, the eighth-seeded Dartmouth women's hockey team were defeated by top-seeded Clarkson, 4-1, in the second game of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Karlee Odland netted Dartmouth's lone goal of the day, picking up sophomore Olivia Whitford's rebound and dumping it behind Shea Tiley to get Dartmouth on the board at 16:04 in the final period.
Odland's final goal of her career marked the first time that a Big Green player has scored at Cheel Arena since a 2-2 tie on Oct. 28, 2011.
The Big Green ended their season with a record of 13-15-2, while the Golden Knights improved to 24-9-3 and will continue on to the tournament semifinal next weekend in hopes of defending their national championship title.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first period, even though it was not for want of trying. Strong netminding was what kept the score locked at zero during the first 20 minutes, as sophomore Robyn Chemago stopped 18 shots and Shea Tiley had 10 saves of her own.
The Golden Knights had an excellent opportunity at breaking the tie at 8:57 in the second when Olivia Howe's shot hit the pipe and banked off the crossbar before sliding away from the net. At 16:21, Chemago saved a shot by Erin Ambrose, but the puck rebounded to Amanda Titus, who tipped it behind the Big Green goalie to get Clarkson on the board.
Clarkson had a strong final period, scoring three times within seven minutes. At 5:52, Renata Fast scored the Golden Knights' second marker of the afternoon, this time with the extra skater.
Christine Lambert tacked on another power-play goal at 10:16, while Cayley Mercer got one of her own at 12:57 to give the home team a 4-0 lead. With just over four minutes left in the game, Odland scored her 11th of the season and the 24th of her career.
Clarkson outshot Dartmouth, 55-27. Chemago wrapped up her final game in net with a career-high 51 saves, while Tiley stopped 26 shots. Junior Laura Stacey led the charge on the Golden Knights' net, taking six shots on goal.
