AUSTIN, TEXAS - A first inning grand slam was all the Texas Longhorns needed in a 7-1 victory over the Dartmouth softball team in the final contest of the Texas Invitational on Sunday morning.

Wintery conditions halted most of the weekend schedule down in Texas, but the Longhorn bats heated up with a pair of singles followed by a walk and then a four-run homer by Erin Shireman. The hosts added another run off relief pitcher junior Morgan McCalmon.

The fifth run was tacked on to senior Kristen Rumley's line as the ace allowed five runs on three hits in a third of an inning. McCalmon lasted through the fourth and allowed one hit.

In the fourth inning, sophomore Maddie Damore hit a solo home run to put the Big Green behind 5-1.

Texas added two insurance runs in the sixth with a two-run homer by Lindsay Stephens.

Erica Wright (5-3) went the distance and struck out 10 Big Green batters and allowed one run on six hits.

Dartmouth's next tournament will be at the Holy City Showdown in Charleston, South Carolina next weekend. On Friday, the Big Green will take on Liberty and host College of Charleston.
