JAMAICA, N.Y. — With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, junior Katie McEachern was hit by a pitch, which allowed the game-winning run to cross the plate, as the Dartmouth softball team defeated St. John's, 5-2, in nine innings on Thursday afternoon in non-league play.

Freshman Lourlin Lara then drove home two runs with a single up the middle to give the Big Green a three-run lead.

St. John's took an early lead in the first with a sacrifice fly RBI by Erin Burner. After the run, junior Morgan McCalmon went on to toss another five innings, but was held without a decision after the Red Storm tied the game in the sixth. The Norman, Oklahoma, native struck out five batters and allowed six hits.

Trailing 1-0, The Big Green scored a pair in the top of the sixth on a two-run RBI by sophomore Maddie Damore. The first baseman doubled to left center and plated McEachern and Lara, who walked and reached on a fielder's choice, respectively.

St. John's (6-13) tied the game on a two-out solo home run by Burner.

Senior Kristen Rumley (4-8) replaced McCalmon in the seventh and breezed through the Red Storm lineup en route to her fourth win of the season. Rumley's three innings of work saw the senior ace allow two hits with two strikeouts.
