CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Dartmouth softball team picked up a pair of shutout wins on Saturday at the Holy City Showdown at the College of Charleston. In the first game of the day, the Big Green defeated Loyola-Chicago, 5-0, and then in five innings beat South Carolina State 9-0.
Dartmouth (4-8) will conclude the invitational on Sunday against Jacksonville at 12 p.m.
The Big Green offence was in full force scoring a season-beat 14 runs over two games and combined for 22 hits. Senior Kristen Rumley and junior Morgan McCalmon won their respective games, as Rumley shut down the Ramblers and McCalmon and freshman Breanna Ethridge two-hit the Lady Bulldogs.
Junior Kathy Dzienkowski had a career day at the plate belting a pair of home runs in the nightcap for five runs batted in. She finished 3-for-3 against South Carolina State as the leadoff hitter. Freshman Tiffany Dyson had a pair of RBIs and two hits as a replacement at second base midway through the Loyola Chicago contest.
In the first contest on Saturday, Rumley and Dyson proved to will the Big Green to their third win of the season. Rumley picked up her third win of the season with a complete game four-hitter. The senior ace struck out six batters and forced 13 groundouts. At the plate, Dyson had a pair of hits and drove home two runs. Rumley also had two hits and drove home a run.
Rumley got out of a two-out jam in the first inning with a pair of singles, but a groundout to junior Katie McEachern at short ended the frame.
Damore led off the second with a solo home run on a 1-0 count to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead. Rumley then doubled to left field and scored on a double to right center by freshman Claire Bird. The Big Green added a pair of runs with a one-out single by Dyson.
In the fifth, McEachern led off with a single to first base and then advanced to second on a ground out by Damore. The Big Green added its fifth run on a RBI double by Rumley down the left field line.
Loyola Chicago had single hits in the sixth and seventh innings after Rumley did not allow a hit from 12 consecutive batters.
Madison Hope was dealt the loss after allowing four runs in 1.1 innings. Her replacement, Ashley Rogers pitched the remaining 5.2 innings and allowed one run on six hits.
Dartmouth had no rest period in-between contests took care of the Lady Bulldogs quickly and often in the shortened contest. Dzienkowski singled through the left side to leadoff the game and scored on a triple into left center by Dyson. The Big Green would load the bases on a walk to McEachern and an infield single to Damore. Dyson was the lone runner to plate after a walk was issued to McCalmon.

The Big Green added two more runs on three hits in the second as Dzienkowski smacked a two-run homer overt the left field fence after senior Megan Averitt singled to begin the frame.
Leading 4-0 heading into the third, Dartmouth added five insurance runs. Junior Kelsey Miller singled through the left side as the leadoff batter followed by a pair fielder's choices to McCalmon and junior Brianna Lohmann. The designated home squad then proceeded to pick up a walk to Averitt and the second home run by Dzienkowski.
The shot was scored three runs to give Dartmouth a seven-run lead. The squad was not finished as Dyson then doubled down the left field line and McEachern hit the second homer of the frame, her fifth of the season.
