No. 54 Men's Tennis Comes from Behind to Defeat No. 30 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – After the opponent won the doubles point, the No. 54 Dartmouth men's tennis team came back to take five of the six singles matches to upset No. 30 Princeton, 5-2, at the Lenz Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Big Green improved to 10-10 and picked up their first Ivy League victory of the season, moving to 1-2 in conference play. The Tigers dipped to 18-5 and 3-1 in league action.

“Our guys have been resilient all year,” head coach Chris Drake said. “This match was just another example of how resilient they are. After losing an extremely close doubles point to a team as good as Princeton is – and on their home courts – I could not be more proud of the effort they showed.

While Dartmouth's Chris Kipouras and Max Schmidt were victorious at the No. 2 doubles with a 6-4 defeat of Diego Vives and Luke Gamble, Princeton won at No. 1 and 3 to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

The Green soon evened the score when sophomore Diego Pedraza had a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Joshua Yablon at No. 4. After tying things up, Dartmouth kept the momentum going to take the match. Sophomore George Wall defeated Vives, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and freshman Ciro Riccardi had a 7-6, 6-2 win over Alexander Day at No. 3. Kipouras' 7-5, 7-6 victory over Thomas Colautti at the No. 2 singles was what clinched the match for the Big Green.

Dartmouth will return to action on Sunday, taking on Penn in an Ivy League match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
