CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 31 Dartmouth women's tennis team defeated Harvard, 5-2, to close out Ivy League play at the Murr Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Big Green improved to 18-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play to finish second in the conference behind Princeton, while the Crimson dipped to 7-12 and were winless in league action with a 0-7 mark.
At No. 1, sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Kristina Mathis defeated Monica Lin and Annika Ringblom, 8-3, and junior Katherine Yau and senior Akiko Okuda had an 8-4 victory over Amy He and Ellen Jang-Milsten at No. 2 to give Dartmouth a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Mathis put the first singles point on the board with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over June Lee at No. 3 and, at No. 1, Ng made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win over Monica Lin. The Green sophomore went undefeated at No. 1 singles against Ivy League opponents.
The Crimson got back in the match with victories at No. 2 and 6 to make the score 3-2 in the Big Green's favor, but a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win by freshman Julia Schroeder over Amanda Lin at No. 5 clinched the win for Dartmouth. Sophomore Jacqueline Crawford added one more point following a 6-4, 6-7, 2-2 (7-1) defeat of Jang-Milsten.
On Tuesday, April 28, Dartmouth will find out if it has qualified for the NCAA tournament.
