WACO, Texas – In the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship, No. 97 Taylor Ng fell to No. 54 Saska Gavrilovska of Texas A&M, 6-4, 6-2, at the Hurd Tennis Center on Wednesday evening.
“It was great having a Dartmouth player make history this year and qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship,” head coach Bob Dallis said after the match. “Taylor played a solid opponent with a lot of international play under her belt, so this was a great learning experience.”
Ng and Gavrilovska played relatively evenly for most of the first set, with the Big Green sophomore winning the first game before the Aggies sophomore came back to tie things up and then take the lead. The two remained close and battled it out until Gavrilovska took the first by a score of 6-4.
The second set started in the opponent's favor and remained so until the end. Ng was able to save one match point, but could not get the other and she ultimately fell, 6-2, to wrap up the day.
With the loss, Ng's NCAA journey (the first for any Dartmouth women's tennis player) has come to an end, while Gavrilovska will play the winner of the Sydney Campbell (Vanderbilt)/and Klare Fabikova (California) matchup that was set to start a few hours after Ng's match against Gavrilovska.
“I know this makes Taylor and her teammates even hungrier to come back to the NCAA team and individual tournament next year,” Dallis said.
