THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth women's soccer team will head south this weekend, facing Vanderbilt on Friday and Memphis on Sunday. Both games will take place at Vanderbilt's Soccer/Lacrosse Complex and will start at 8 p.m. (ET).
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green opened the 2015 season on Sunday by shutting out Marist, 2-0, at Tenney Stadium. Senior co-captains Lucielle Kozlov and Corey Delaney kicked off their final year on the team by scoring a goal apiece. The game-winner was scored at 23:23 in the first after Melanie Vangel won the ball and slotted it through the back to Kozlov, who buried the shot in the back of the net from 12 yards out. In the 57th minute, Delaney received a cross from Lauren Lucas and hammered the ball home from inside the box. In net, Katie Fuhs earned her first shutout in her short career, making three saves to Marist's Ashley Houghton's six.
SCOUTING THE COMMODORES
Vanderbilt has had a tough start to its season, which began almost three weeks ago. During that time, the Commodores have fallen to Miami (OH) (1-0), Cincinnati (1-0) and Seattle (3-1), picking up a lone victory against Gonzaga (3-2, OT) to go with the three losses. Leading Vanderbilt is Simone Charley, who has scored two of the team's three goals.
LAST TIME AGAINST VANDERBILT
The Green and the Commodores have played each other just twice before, splitting the results. On Sept. 30, 1999, Dartmouth shutout Vanderbilt, 4-0, and, on Sept. 3, 2006, the Commodores returned the favor almost seven years later by defeating the Big Green by a score of 3-2.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Both of Memphis' wins so far have been decided by a single goal, as the Tigers defeated both Alabama and UAB by scores of 1-0. Their one loss occurred last week when they fell to Samford, 5-1. Necee Jennings is first on the team with one goal and one assist for three points.
THERE'S A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
This is the first time in program history that Dartmouth and Memphis have met.
RAINEY AND COMPANY
In his first season with the Big Green, head coach Ron Rainey compiled a record of 8-5-4 and a 3-1-3 mark in Ivy League play. Joining Rainey on the bench are Grace Barnard, who is in her second season as an assistant coach, and Cord Farmer, who joined Dartmouth after spending the 2014 season at Nevada.
CAPTAINS
The Green are led by Corey Delaney, Jackie Friedman and Lucielle Kozlov, who are all entering their final season on the field. Last season, Delaney was second on the team in points (11) and assists, and third in goals (4), Friedman recorded one goal and two helpers, and Kozlov led the team in goals (5) and points (12).
FRESH FACES
Opening their collegiate careers this year and making up a 10-player freshman class are Remy Borinsky, Chloe Conacher, Jaclyn Engel, Stephanie Everett, Julia Fissore-O'Leary, Katie Harris, Lauren Lucas, Ellen Pattinson, Lillian Raffetto and Sally Sandoval. Borinsky was the lone freshman starter, but Sandoval, Pattinson and Lucas all saw playing time, with Lucas earning her first assist on Delaney's marker.
