HANOVER, N.H. – Despite a strong effort, the ninth-ranked Dartmouth women's squash team fell to No. 13 Drexel 5-4 at the Berry Squash Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Big Green to 2-5 while the Dragons improve to 6-2.
Freshman Emma Roberts and sophomore Janel Gaube got Dartmouth off to a great start as the underclassmen swept their opponents 3-0. Meanwhile the Big Green's seniors found themselves facing some stiff competition.
Dewey came out of the blocks very quickly taking the first game, but she lost her way in the second and third losing them in quick succession. In the fourth Dewey showed strong resistance taking it to extra points, but she couldn't close out her opponent.
Lydie McKenzie dropped her first two games before taking the third. Unfortunately for McKenzie, the fourth game slipped away as Dartmouth and Drexel found themselves in a 2-2 tie overall. Freshman Carly Rizzuto and junior Maddie Fraser each recorded 3-0 victories, however sophomore Zainab Molani and junior Jacqueline Barnes were each swept by their opponents.
With the overall score tied 4-4, the match came down to sophomore Becky Brownell. Her match went the distance; however, she could not seal the victory after Brownell lost the final two games of the contest giving the Dragons the 5-4 win.
Dartmouth returns to action when the Big Green take on Stanford in New Haven, Conn. On Saturday Jan. 30.
