Dartmouth Falls to Stanford 8-1, Defeats Middlebury 6-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 10 Dartmouth women's squash team split matches in New Haven, by defeating Middlebury 6-3 after losing to fifth-ranked Stanford 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Big Green are now 3-6, while the Cardinal improves to 8-2 and the Panthers drop to 6-6.

In the first match against Stanford, freshman Emma Roberts and sophomore Rebecca Brownell took their first games from their opponents before falling in four games. Junior Madeline Fraser fought valiantly to come from behind to tie her match 2-2, but could not complete the comeback falling 3-2.

In the second round of matches with the Cardinal, sophomore Janel Gaube won in four games securing Dartmouth's only point. Senior Tori Dewey turned in a solid performance losing the fifth and deciding game 11-7. Sophomore Zainab Molani competed well, but lost 3-0.

Freshman Carly Rizzuto got off to a quick 2-0 lead on her opponent, but fell 3-2. Junior Jacqueline Barnes won her first game before her opponent gained momentum to win the next three games.

In their second match of the afternoon, the Big Green were able to prevail. Gaube and Roberts got Dartmouth on the board by winning in straight games. Meanwhile, Lydie McKenzie and Dewey each lost in four, brining the overall match to a 2-2 tie.

Fraser won in straight games as Rizzuto went back and forth with her opponent before falling in the fifth. In the final round of matches, Barnes defeated her opponent in four games after losing the first. Molani won a tense match giving the Big Green the overall win. Brownell came from two games down to win three straight for the final Dartmouth victory of the day.
