WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – The Big Green women's swimming and diving team broke four records and won four events en route to winning the Dartmouth Invitational. They ended the weekend with 1,141 points and Northeastern was second with 1,030.
To start the first session of the afternoon, Dartmouth's 200-yard medley A and B relays finished in fourth and fifth place with times of 1:51.52 and 1:52.38, respectively. In the 400-yard IM, Melanya Zaraska took second place (4:35.14), and was less than a second out of first, while Hayley Winter was fifth (4:39.38).
In the 100-yard butterfly, Megan Crook placed second (57.16), and Katie Altmayer came in fifth (58.71). Crook was back at it later in the afternoon, finishing in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke this time (1:06.05).
The Big Green took the first three spots in the 200-yard freestyle, had six swimmers finish in the top 10 and earned a total of 103 points. AnnClaire MacArt led the charge (1:52.37) and was followed soon after by Molly Brickman (1:52.76) and Olivia Samson (1:53.34) in third and fourth, respectively. Zaraska came in fifth (1:55.01), Amber Zimmerman was seventh (1:55.92) and Amy Sun touched in ninth place (1:57.39).
In the 100-yard backstroke, Kendese Nangle and Brickman finished four tenths of a second apart to take second and third, with Nangle touching in 58.15 and Brickman following in 58.55. Also swimming the event were Allison Parent, who was sixth (59.87), and Taylor Yamahata, who came in ninth place (1:00.36).
Over at Karl Michael Pool, Allison Green placed eighth on the 3-meter diving board (196.80), Allegra Codamon was 12th (173.80) and Lydia Jabs came in 15th (147.95). On 1-meter, Green was fifth (241.85), Codamon came seventh (211.40) and Jabs placed 13th (172.35).
Dartmouth took the top three spots in the 1650-yard freestyle to start the final session of the weekend. MacArt won her second event of the weekend (17:08.40) and broke the pool and meet records by three and a half seconds. Winter was second (17:34.49) and Samson came in third (17:51.29). In the 200-yard backstroke, Yamahata was second (2:05.02), Nangle was fifth (2:07.35), Parent came in sixth (2:08.56) and Caroline Filan touched in eighth (2:10.81).
Kamai won the 100-yard freestyle (51.17), earning 20 points and breaking the pool and meet records. Zimmerman came in second place (51.68), Crook was fourth (52.80), Nangle was fifth (53.15) and Brickman was eighth (53.78). In the 200-yard butterfly, Zaraska and Grace Herron finished less than a tenth apart, with Zaraska taking second (2:07.56) and Herron finishing in third (2:07.64).
To end the weekend, Dartmouth's 400-yard freestyle A and B relays took first and second, with the A relay winning (3:31.37) and the B relay following soon after (3:34.08).
