HANOVER, N.H. – The ninth-ranked Dartmouth women's squash team fell to No. 3 Princeton, 9-0 at home in the team's first match of the new year.
The loss drops the Big Green to 2-3, while the Tigers improve to 6-0.
Freshman Carly Rizzuto fell to her Princeton opponent 3-0, in the first round of matches on Saturday. Sophomore Caroline Canning also lost in three games, but finished with a strong showing in the final game, forcing a tie before dropping the match 13-11.
Senior Lydie McKenzie played well in the first and third games of her match, but was unable to close out her opponent. Sophomore Rebecca Brownell and junior Madeline Fraser faced experienced opponents as each member of the Big Green fell in three straight games.
One of Dartmouth's best performances of the afternoon came from Emma Roberts who narrowly lost the first two games of her match before taking the third and forcing a fourth. Roberts fell in the fourth game before the contest could go to a fifth.
Sophomore Janel Gaube also had a strong showing against her Princeton opponent winning a hard fought second game after dropping the first. Gaube pushed her opponent to a deciding fifth game after winning the fourth, but she could not complete the comeback.
The Big Green return to the squash court tomorrow to take on Penn at home at 11:00 a.m.
