CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Jerome Robinson matched his career-high with 27 points and Boston College (4-3) shot 55.7 percent as a team — 60 percent in the second half — to defeat Dartmouth (0-6), 88-70, at the Silvio O. Conte Forum on Saturday afternoon.
Robinson drained 10-of-16 field goals, including 4-of-7 from distance, plus all three of his foul shots to go with four assists and three steals in 26 minutes of action. He was supported two reserves in Ty Graves with 13 points thanks to a perfect 3-for-3 performance behind the arc and Jordan Chatman with 12.
Sophomore Evan Boudreaux led the Big Green with 23 points and six rebounds before being ejected for a flagrant two foul with 9:21 to play. Junior Taylor Johnson hit all but one shot in the game, going 4-for-5 from the floor with two triples and 4-of-4 at the line to produce 14 points, and fellow junior Miles Wright had 12 on 5-of-10 shooting with six rebounds to match Boudreaux.
Boston College never trailed in the game, taking a quick 2-0 lead on a layup by Mo Jeffers after winning the opening tap. Wright responded with a short jumper in the paint, only to have A.J. Turner come right back with a jumper of his own. Dartmouth would never get back to even.
But after falling behind, 11-4, Wright ripped back-to-back three-pointers to close the gap to one. Robinson scored the next six points, getting three points the hard way before canning his first trifecta, only to have sophomore Guilien Smith match his trey and Boudreaux convert a three-point play to keep the deficit at one, 17-16, eight minutes into the game.
The Eagles embarked on a 15-3 spurt, however, started by a Robinson three-pointer and capped by a Graves triple. Boudreaux slowed BC by hitting consecutive three-pointers with a Robinson layup sandwiched between, and when Wright scored on a putback with 1:43 left in the half, Dartmouth was still within six, 37-31. The two teams traded baskets before Robinson sank two free throws just before the intermission to give the Eagles a 41-33 advantage.
The long ball kept the Big Green at arm's length in the second half as Boston College hit its first five three-point attempts. Boudreaux did his best to keep Dartmouth in the game, scoring 10 of its first 14 points in the stanza. His layup with just under 15 minutes to play maintained the eight-point deficit, but Graves drilled the third of those five three-balls to boost the Eagle edge back to double figures at 58-47.
It was Johnson's turn to hit back-to-back treys, with a three-pointer by Chatman in between, leaving the BC lead at 65-56. But the Eagles scored the next seven points, then Boudreaux was hit with his flagrant two foul, sending him to the showers. Boston College extended its run to 13 on four free throws and a layup, putting the game out of reach at 78-56 with 7:52 to play. The Big Green never got closer than 17 the rest of the way.
Dartmouth finished the game shooting 40.7 percent (22-of-54) and 33.3 percent (8-of-24) from downtown. The Big Green doubled BC at the foul line, hitting 18-of-22 (.818) compared to 9-of-11 (.818), and rebounded the hosts, 33-27. But 20 turnovers led to 20 Eagle points, and Boston College held a 40-24 scoring advantage in the post.
Next up for Dartmouth is a trip to America East favorite Vermont (6-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Boston College stays in the Ivy League, hosting Harvard (2-4) on the same night and same time.
Notes: The Big Green are 0-6 for the first time since starting the 2006-07 with six straight losses … freshman Ian Sistare joined Boudreaux and Wright with a team-high six rebounds … senior Mike Fleming dished out a career-high six assists … Dartmouth entered the game with two blocks as a team, but came up with four against the Eagles, with three courtesy of senior Ike Ngwudo … freshman Will Emery and James Foye made their first collegiate appearances in the final few minutes. Emery had an offensive rebound and hit 3-of-4 free throws for his first career points.
