CANTON, N.Y. – The 19th-ranked St. Lawrence men's hockey team scored three goals in the third period in a 5-1 win against visiting Dartmouth Saturday night at Appleton Arena.
The final ECAC Hockey game of 2016 for the Big Green (3-5-2), the result drops their conference mark to 1-3-2 with the next league game coming on Jan. 6 at home against Princeton. The Saints (9-5-4, 6-1-2) still have a rivalry matchup with Clarkson next week with just one conference loss to their credit thus far.
Dartmouth's lone goal of the night came from freshman Cam Strong in the second period. Strong buried his team-leading fourth of the season at the 11:10 mark of the middle frame to tie the game with assists going to Carl Hesler and River Rymsha.
SLU answered back with the eventual game winner just 1:22 later as Jacob Pritchard found the back of the net at the other end of the ice.
Canaan, New Hampshire, native Gavin Bayreuther started the third-period outburst with a power-play goal on a blast from the point. Mike Marnell then added the final two tallies of the contest to cap the night's scoring and give the Saints four unanswered goals to end the game.
Devin Buffalo was responsible for all five goals against, making 22 saves before being lifted for the final 6:07 for freshman Adrian Clark, who stopped two in that time.
At the other end, Kyle Hayton made 30 saves as the Big Green outshot the home team, 31-29.
The visitors went 0-for-5 with the man-advantage, while the Saints scored twice on their five chances.
The Green and White finished the seven-game road trip with a 1-4-2 mark.
Dartmouth is back in action next Saturday night when it plays Granite State rival UNH at Thompson Arena in a welcomed home game. The 7 p.m. contest will serve as the annual Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD) Toy Drive collection game as fans are asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy to be delivered by the team.
