PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – On the opening day of the 2016 ECAC Indoor Championship on Friday, second-seeded Dartmouth men's tennis fell to No. 7 seed and host Penn, 4-3. The No. 34 Big Green dipped to 5-4 on the season, while the Quakers improved to 3-4.
Dartmouth took the doubles point by winning at the No. 2 and 3 positions. At No. 2, senior Brendan Tannenbaum and junior George Wall took down Matt Nardella and Thomas Spratt, 6-2, while junior Max Schmidt and sophomore Max Fliegner had a 6-3 victory over Dmitry Shatalin and Vim De Alwis.
At the No.1 position, senior Dovydas Sakinis and freshman Roko Glasnovic fell, 6-2, to Nicholai Westergaard and Austin Kaplan. The Green duo appeared in the national rankings for the first time this week, sitting at No. 49.
The Quakers won the top four singles matches to take the match. At No. 5, Wall had a 6-2, 6-4 victory of Westergaard and, at the No. 5 position, Schmidt defeated Ismael Lahlou, 6-4, 6-3.
Dartmouth will return to the Hecht Tennis Center on Saturday by playing the loser of the Brown/Princeton matchup at 6 p.m.
