Mobile, Ala. – The Dartmouth softball team fell to South Alabama, 8-0 in six innings in the final game of the South Alabama Invitational on Sunday.
The loss drops the Big Green to 1-5, while the Jaguars improve to 8-6.
Freshman Lauren Stone got the start in the circle for Dartmouth. In the first inning, South Alabama struck first when a Kaleigh Todd double down the left field line scored Emily Messer to give the Jaguars a 1-0 lead.
Big Green senior Kelsey Miller doubled to left field in the second, but Dartmouth could not get anything going offensively. After a scoreless inning, South Alabama plated six runs in the third. An Alex Breeden double scored two runs while a Messer triple to center scored another two. With two outs in the third, sophomore Breanna Ethridge came in to pitch in relief for Stone.
A Todd double to left plated one more run as the Jaguars took a 7-0 lead.
Dartmouth left two on base in the top of the sixth before South Alabama added an insurance run when Stephanie Pilkington doubled to center which scored Todd.
The Big Green return to the field next weekend when Dartmouth travels to Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.
