THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's hockey will play its last two home games of the season this weekend, facing Yale at 7 p.m. on Friday and Brown at 4 p.m. the next day. The game against the Bulldogs will be Pink the Rink and the Big Green's five seniors will be recognized the next day against the Bears following their final game at Thompson.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth hosted top two ECAC Hockey seeds Princeton and Quinnipiac last weekend, falling to the No. 9/9 Tigers, 4-1, and the No. 4/4 Bobcats, 2-1.
Against Princeton
Dartmouth held an 11-10 shot advantage in the first period, but neither team was able to find the back of the net, as both Robyn Chemago and Princeton's Kimberly Newell had a number of big saves to keep it scoreless. At 4:38 of the second, a passing play from Ailish Forfar and Kate Landers made its way to Laura Stacey who picked up the puck to the left of Newell in the crease. Stacey skated around the Tiger netminder and backhanded it into the right of the net for the first goal of the day. At 17:57, Princeton's Karlie Lund scored to make it a 1-1 game heading into the third. Jaimie McDonell scored on a breakaway at 10:21 in the final stanza and added another unassisted tally at 16:23 to give the visitors a 3-1 edge. An empty netter by Molly Contini with 27 seconds remaining on the clock ended the game.
Versus Quinnipiac
The Green cut a two-goal deficit in half courtesy of a career-first by Hailey Noronha, but were not able to fully mount a comeback the next day against the Bobcats. With just over a minute remaining in the first period, Lindsey Allen picked up a turnover deep in Bobcat territory and skated to the right before firing at the net, but the puck was sent directly to netminder Sydney Rossman, who made the save to keep the game scoreless. At 9:23 of the second, junior Robyn Chemago got knocked clear off her post and fast passes between Nicole Connery and Emma Woods gave Quinnipiac its first goal of the game. At the end of the period, Laura Stacey intercepted a pass at the blue line and swept past two Quinnipiac defenders. She tried to chip the puck behind Rossman's foot, but the goalie was quick to defend her net. The Bobcats got another at 3:41 in the third following a flick to the right by Melissa Samoskevich to make it 2-0. At 10:27, with eight seconds remaining on the power play, Noronha picked up a loose puck around center ice and ripped a wrister past Rossman to cut Quinnipiac's lead to one. Dartmouth took a few more shots in hopes of tying the game, but ran out of time before it could do so.
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs have gone 8-9-0 since their tie against the Green back in early November, going through a bit of a lull during the middle of conference season before picking it up as of late. Yale comes to Hanover on a four-game winning streak, having defeated Union and RPI by scores of 2-1 and Brown in a pair of games by scores of 4-1 and 6-3. Leading the way is Mallory Souliotis with 21 points (3G, 18A).
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
On Nov. 7, 2015, Dartmouth and Yale skated to a 3-3 draw at Ingalls Rink. The Big Green were leading, 3-1, with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third when the Bulldogs scored twice in a five minute span to send the game to overtime, where neither team could get past the respective netminder. Allen got the Green on the board at 3:39, picking up the puck and chipping it over Hanna Mandl's right shoulder. Before the period was out, the Bulldogs would tie the score at one with a Souliotis marker at 17:38. The Green got ahead once again with a power-play tally by Landers at 13:05 in the second and increased its lead to two at 9:09 in the third period when Brooke Ahbe picked up a deflected shot and sent it past the netminder's outstretched glove and into the net for the Green's second man-up goal of the day. Yale began to mount a comeback, getting one goal closer at 12:49 with a goal by Brittany Wheeler. With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Eden Murray scored the game-tying tally to force overtime. In those final 10 minutes of play, the Big Green took two shots to the Bulldogs' one, but both goalies made the saves to prevent any other tallies.
SCOUTING BROWN
Since last facing Dartmouth on Nov. 6, the Bears have gone 3-13-2 and are coming off a pair of losses to Yale over the weekend. Maddie Woo leads the team with 13 points (4G, 9A).
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BEARS
Dartmouth defeated Brown, 4-0, at Meehan Auditorium on Nov. 6, 2015. Stacey netted her first two goals of the season to end the night with two points, while five other Green players tallied a point. Chemago earned her first shutout of the season, making 22 saves throughout the game. Although the first period was quiet, a three-goal second period more than made up for it. Just three minutes in, Allen picked up the puck and carried it all the way down the ice, preparing to shoot at Monica Elvin in net. A Brown defender seemingly appeared out of nowhere and knocked the puck out of danger, only to send it directly to Kennedy Ottenbreit, who shot through Elvin's legs to score the game-winner at 3:23. Brown had a chance at a goal at 10:55, but her shot was saved by Chemago at close range. The Big Green quickly countered and moved the puck up the ice in a hurry, which resulted in Stacey's power-play marker from the blueline at 11:07. Alyssa Baker scored her first collegiate goal at 17:30 on a breakaway, stealing the puck off a Bears' stick and skating around two others to shoot to the left of Elvin and give Dartmouth a 3-0 lead heading into the third. At 13:56 in the third, Ahbe raced after a loose puck and blindly passed it backwards to Stacey, who shot to the left of the net.
