NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 34 Dartmouth men's tennis team fell to No. 61 Old Dominion, 4-3, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Big Green dipped to 5-3 on the season and the Monarchs improved to 4-3.
Dartmouth took the first point with victories at the No. 1 and 3 doubles positions. Senior Dovydas Sakinis and freshman Roko Glasnovic had a 6-3 win over Adam Moundir and Aziz Kijametovic at No. 1, while junior Max Schmidt and sophomore Max Fliegner downed Darragh Glavin and Theophile Lanthiez, 6-0.
After the Green won the doubles point, the Monarchs turned things around to win the first three singles matches, taking No. 2, 1 and 5 before Fliegner defeated Javier Jover Maestre, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 4. Schmidt had a three-set victory over Jacob Nicolussi at the No. 6 position by scores of 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, to make it a 3-3 match.
At No. 3 singles, senior Brendan Tannenbaum won his first set against Kijametovic, 7-5, but dropped the remaining two, 7-5, 6-3.
Next weekend, Dartmouth will head to Philadelphia for the ECAC Championship at Penn's Hecht Tennis Center.
