HANOVER, N.H. — On the heels of finishing second at the 2016 Ivy League Men's Golf Championship, freshman John Lazor was named Rookie of the Year, sophomore Ian Kelsey earned First Team All-Ivy honors and senior Charles Cai was tabbed for Second Team All-Ivy honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The Big Green finished just four strokes back of Harvard for the Ivy League title at the Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson, N.J.
Toward the end of the regular season, Lazor turned in some of the best rounds of his rookie campaign in Hanover. In the final match of the season, Lazor claimed individual medalist honors, finishing first at the Yale Invitational to help his team to a second place overall finish. In the Ivy League Championship. Lazor finished 17th in the 40-man field, concluding the year with an average score of 74, with a low round of 67.
Kelsey also played well down the stretch for Dartmouth, finishing second at the Ivy League Championship, one stroke behind the tournaments first place finisher. The Deerfield, Illinois native was one of the top performers for the Big Green this season, averaging a 73 with a low round of 67 at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, which earned him a tie for second in the tournament.
Cai wrapped up a successful final year in Hanover with a top ten finish on Sunday at the par-72 course. This season, he averaged a 74 and turned in a 69 for his best round at the Cornell Spring Invitational, good for a tie for third overall at the tournament.
