HANOVER, N.H. – For the first time since 2007, the Dartmouth sailing team has qualified for the Women's, Team Race and Co-Ed National Championship after a seventh place finish at the Coast Guard Alumni Bowl, which was hosted by the Big Green in Hanover.
Dartmouth's 59 points secured seventh, as Roger Williams took first with 41 points. Boston University won a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Coast Guard Academy for second with 45 points. Boston College and Yale rounded out the top five with 50 and 53 points.
Representing the Big Green at home were: Hunter Johnstone and Rebecca McElvain in Division A, with Charlie Lalumiere and Abigail Rohman in Division B. Nathaniel Johansson, Maddie Walker, Madeline Cooney, Nate Greason and Hope Wilson served as alternates.
Saturday was a no-sail after winds remained calm on Mascoma Lake. Sunday brought similar conditions with rain, but four races were completed under a light and shifty breeze. Dartmouth recorded two top-five finishes across both divisions, including a fourth place finish in the first race of Division B.
The Big Green will return to the water for the ICSA Nationals in San Diego, California. The Women's Championship will be held from May 24-27, while the Team Race Championship will take place on May 28-30, before the weekend concludes with the Coed Championship on May 31 through June 1.
