NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Emma Plumb and sophomore Hailey Valerio combined to post a shutout Sunday morning against Sacred Heart, 3-0, at Johnson Field.
Playing on Yale's home turf, the Big Green improved to 3-3 this season with their second win of the weekend after having knocked off Vermont at home Friday, 4-1.
Sunday's contest marked the first shutout for the Big Green since September 29, 2012 when they defeated Penn, 2-0, at home.
It was actually a scoreless game through 48:23 of play before junior and team captain Morgan Philie found the back of the cage with her second goal in as many games. Junior Sarah Tabeek was credited with an assist on the play, the second of the weekend for her as well.
That was all the scoring Plumb and Valerio would need as the rookie started and went 55:25 of play, making one save, before giving way to Valerio for two saves in the final 14:35 to preserve the shutout.
Sophomore Evie Bird scored the first goal of her career just five minutes after Philie's marker, putting in a rebound with freshman Carmen Braceras picking up the assist.
Braceras then capped the scoring in the 62nd minute with her team-leading fourth goal of the year, lobbing a shot over the head of the Pioneers' goalkeeper Emily Degennaro from the top of the circle.
Dartmouth dominated from start to finish, despite just the three-goal difference. The Big Green out-attempted their counterparts, 15-6, in total shots and 7-3 in shots on goal. The penalty corners were an astonishing 13-2 in favor of the team from the Upper Valley.
Dartmouth opens Ivy League play in its next outing, heading to Princeton on Saturday for a noon game with the Tigers.
