Dartmouth Opens Season at Ivy Plus Tournament

PRINCETON, N.J. – Dartmouth men's tennis opened the 2016-17 season at the Ivy Plus Tournament, which is co-hosted by Princeton and Penn over the course of three days. On the first day of competition on Friday, four Big Green players competed at one venue, while four were at the other.

The event will feature players from all eight Ivy schools plus Buffalo, Drexel, Marist, Penn State, St. John's, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin and VCU, giving the Green conference experience well before Ivy play commences.

At Princeton, senior Max Schmidt, sophomore Roko Glasnovic and freshman David Horneffer all picked up a win apiece. In the first round, Horneffer won against Scott Jones of Tennessee (7-5, 6-2). In the second round, Schmidt defeated Aws Larribi of Penn State (6-2, 6-4), while Glasnovic had a 6-7, 7-1 (10-6) victory over Yale's Fedor Andrienko.

Over at Penn, the Big Green played eight matches throughout the two rounds, winning five of them. In the first round, sophomore Eddie Grabill took down Cornell's Rohan Sikka (6-3, 6-3) and classmate Joey Haig defeated Samuel Beren of Harvard (6-4, 7-6). Freshman Charlie Broom got his collegiate start by winning against Penn State's Matt Galush (6-3, 6-4).

In the second round, Haig and Broom picked up another one apiece to end the day undefeated. Haig defeated Penn State's Nika Dolidze (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) and Broom had a 6-4, 6-3 win over Max Cancilla of Penn.

Day two of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
