ORONO, Maine – Senior Joanne Nazareth notched the first two-goal game of her career, but the Dartmouth field hockey team fell, 7-3, Monday afternoon at Maine.

The Black Bears (4-0) have proven themselves to be an incredibly gifted offensive team this season, scoring 24 goals in their first four games. However, prior to Monday, the team's defense had not allowed more than a goal in each of the first three contests of the season. That streak ended on Labor Day as the Big Green (0-2) found the back of the cage three times.

In addition to Nazareth's two tallies — which matched her season-best output from both her sophomore and junior seasons — Dartmouth got its first score of the afternoon from fellow senior Heather Zezzo.

Zezzo matched Nazareth's point total as she picked up assists on both of her teammate's scores. Anna Ewasechko was credited with the assist on Zezzo's marker.

Madison Cummings and her three goals and a goal and four assists from Casey Crowley led Maine to the victory.

It was a back-and-forth contest in the opening half with the home team jumping out to a 2-0 lead, before the Green and White managed to tie things up just before the intermission. Five straight goals from the Bears in the second half put the game away with Nazareth's second of the afternoon coming in the 69th minute to cap the scoring.

Freshman Emma Plumb made her first collegiate start in goal for Dartmouth and made nine saves and allowing four in 50:40 of play before giving way to sophomore Hailey Valerio (1S, 3GA) for the final 19:20. Maine's Emma Cochran and Emily Corbett each played a half with neither recording a save and the former getting the 'W'.

In all, the Black Bears outshot the Big Green, 17-3, partly thanks to an 11-5 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Dartmouth returns to Hanover for the 2016 home opener on Friday afternoon. The Big Green host Bryant at Chase Field with game time set for 2 p.m.
