SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team and No. 11 Union combined to score four power-play goals Friday night at Messa Rink.
Unfortunately for the Big Green (5-8-3, 2-5-2 ECAC), the home Dutchmen (15-5-2, 9-1-1) notched three of those man-advantage tallies and hit the empty net in a 4-1 victory.
Junior and team captain Carl Hesler notched the lone goal for Dartmouth at 13:52 of the first on the power play to tie the game after Bret Supinski opened the scoring at 8:45.
Senior Josh Hartley and freshman Will Graber picked up the helpers as they worked the puck around the point before Hartley's shot was redirected in the low slot by Hesler for his second of the season.
Supinski would net another goal on the man-advantage at 15:42 for the lone marker of the middle frame, while Jeff Taylor made it 3-1 just a minute and four seconds into the third.
Spencer Foo assisted on all three of those goals before finding the back of the empty net with 29 seconds to go for his fourth point of the evening.
Making his first career start in goal, freshman Adrian Clark made 20 saves in just under 58 minutes of action, while Union's Alex Sakellaropoulous was outstanding at the other end of the ice, stopping 34-of-35 shots in the win.
The Big Green were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Dutchmen were 3-of-5 on their opportunities. The visitors heavily outshot the home team, 35-24, but were unable to solve Sakellaropoulous outside of the Hesler goal.
Dartmouth is back in action Saturday night just up the road at Rensselaer in Troy.
