HANOVER, N.H. – Freshman Tori Dozier had a double-double with 24 assists and 13 digs in Dartmouth volleyball's 3-0 loss to Yale on Friday evening (25-16, 25-21, 25-14). The Big Green dipped to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in Ivy League play, while the Bulldogs improved to 11-4 and 5-1.
“We needed to match Yale in intensity, and we didn't do that,” head coach Gilad Doron said. “Some of our players just had an off night. I think it was a tough loss for us, but we learned some good lessons. We didn't have enough firepower, and we're looking to change that tomorrow.”
Sophomore Carly Tower led with six kills and freshman Elise Petit was a close second in digs with nine. Appearing in her first match of her senior season, Morgan Dressel played well, registering two kills, one block assist and a .400 hitting percentage.
The teams were neck and neck at the beginning of the first set, tying five times before Yale pulled away (13-7). The Big Green got back within two thanks to four straight Bulldog errors (13-11), but another four consecutive points got Yale closer to a victory (18-12). Tower had a good set, recording two blocks and two kills, but a handful of Bulldog points gave set one to the visitors (25-16).
The second set was a lot closer and could have gone either way right up until the final few points. After Dartmouth got off to a slow start, it started to chip away at Yale's lead until the score was tied at 16-all thanks to an aggressive four-point run off kills by Petit and Dozier and a pair of Bulldog errors. From there, the teams tied four times until things were tied at 20-20. Yale got to match point without allowing a point from Dartmouth and, although an error got the Big Green within three, the Bulldogs shut it down (25-21).
A Tower kill started off the third set in Dartmouth's favor and the teams went back and forth until a six-point Yale run gave the Bulldogs an 11-3 advantage. Dressel, Tower, senior Sara Lindquist and freshman Nagel-Caland had some nice kills to break up Yale's run, but the Bulldogs quickly ended the set (25-14).
The Big Green will return to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. match against Brown.
