HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth volleyball rebounded from its loss to Yale the night before by taking Brown down in straight sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-19) at Leede Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Green improved to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in Ivy League play, while the Bears dipped to 6-12 and 1-6.
“That was a good bounce back from last night,” head coach Gilad Doron said. “I thought we distributed the ball better, and our passing and serving game also improved. We competed with great energy and effort and we were able to finish that last game quickly.
“Overall, I was pretty proud after last night, when we didn't really show up,” Doron continued. “Today, we took control of the game and played the way we hope to continue to play during our second go through of the schedule.”
Freshman Tori Dozier had her second double-double of the weekend and her ninth overall with 26 assists and 10 digs, while classmate Lauren Douglas led with 15 digs and junior Samantha Bozoian was first among the Big Green with nine kills.
The start of the first set was close, but Dartmouth pulled away quickly. With a 10-6 advantage, kills by freshman Mallen Bischoff and senior Morgan Dressel, and two service aces by Dozier put the Big Green ahead by seven (13-6). The Bears managed to get within five (21-16), but a kill apiece by Bischoff and Bozoian paired with two Brown errors made it 1-0 in Dartmouth's favor (25-16).
Tied at 2-all in the second set, five straight Green points off two Bozoian kills, an ace by Douglas, a Brown error and a kill by Bischoff made it a 7-2 set. Dartmouth further increased its lead until it was seven points ahead of its opponent (20-13). A 5-1 run following an ace by sophomore Carly Tower, a Bozoian kill and three Bear errors gave the Big Green their second win of the day (25-14).
Brown played well in the third set, making Dartmouth work even harder to win. With the Big Green ahead by three (12-9), the Bears scored three in a row to tie it up and, when Dartmouth pulled away, the visitors kept matching it. Six ties later, with the score at 18-18, a 6-1 Dartmouth run ended the match. Thanks to five Brown errors and a kill by freshman Elise Petit, the Green walked away with the victory (25-19).
Now that it has faced all seven of its Ivy opponents, Dartmouth will start back at the top of the list with a single match against Harvard at home on Friday, Oct. 20.
