THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's hockey will be on the road for the second weekend in a row, taking on Quinnipiac and Princeton in a pair of ECAC Hockey games. The game against the Bobcats will be on ESPN3, while the one versus the Tigers will be on the Ivy League Network (ILN). This will be the last time that the Big Green play away from Thompson Arena until Jan. 5, as they will start a record nine-game homestand starting next weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
After playing two preseason games the weekend before, Dartmouth officially kicked off 2017-18 with a game at Harvard on Friday and New Hampshire Sunday.
Dartmouth vs. Harvard
Alternate captain Caroline Shaunessy netted the Big Green's goal in Dartmouth women's hockey's 4-1 loss to Harvard in both team's season opener at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Friday.
At 11:24 of the third period, Shaunessy bested netminder Beth Larcom, finding the back of the net with just five seconds remaining on the 5-on-3. Christina Rombaut won the faceoff and passed to Shaunessy at the point, and the latter's wrister ended up in the top corner. This was Shaunessy's second goal of her career and Rombaut's third helper in her two years in Hanover.
Christine Honor played the entirety of the game, ending up with a career-high 39 saves.
Dartmouth vs. UNH
For the second time that weekend, Shaunessy netted a goal on the 5-on-3, ending the day with a point in Dartmouth's loss to UNH in a non-conference tilt on Sunday. Classmate and fellow captain Hailey Noronha assisted.
Honor played the first 24 minutes and had 10 saves while being saddled with the loss. Shannon Ropp came in early in the second, making a total of 19 saves and allowing a pair of goals in the remaining 35 minutes. She ended up with a .905 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac – which is further into its season than Dartmouth – enters the weekend with a record of 4-3-0. This will be the Bobcats' first conference game of the year. So far this season, Quinnipiac has had a win and a loss to Maine (W, 2-1; L, 4-2), a win and loss to Providence (L, 3-1; W, 1-0), a pair of wins against Vermont (4-1, 2-1) and, most recently, a 4-2 loss to Boston College. Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout and Brooke Bonsteel lead with three goals and one assist apiece.
LAST TIME AGAINST QUINNIPIAC
The Big Green went 0-2 against the Bobcats in 2016-17, falling 2-1 at home on Nov. 11 and 3-1 at High Point Solutions on Jan. 7.
In the second meeting between the teams, at 8:54 of the third and with Dartmouth trailing by three goals, Kennedy Ottenbreit fired from the left circle, beating netminder Sydney Rossman and finding the back of the net 43 seconds into the power play. Eleni Tebano and Alyssa Baker were credited with the assists. Robyn Chemago had 40 saves and a .930 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Prior to its game against Harvard on Friday, Princeton had played just two regular-season games. Both were against Providence. Both ended in a 2-2 tie. Carly Bullock leads the team by scoring three of those four goals.
LAST TIME AGAINST PRINCETON
The Big Green went 1-1 against the Tigers last season, winning a thrilling 3-2 overtime game at home against 10th-ranked Princeton on Nov. 12 before falling, 4-0, on the road in January.
Returning to the ice after almost a month away, Dartmouth fell to Princeton at Hobey Baker Rink by a score of 4-0. Mackenzie St. Onge had a good game in her 100th career contest, leading the Big Green with three shots, all of which posed a threat to Steph Neatby in the Tigers' net. Chemago held strong between the pipes, making 40 saves and ending up with a .909 save percentage.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Honor has started both games, making 49 saves and allowing eight goals in 84 minutes for a .860 save percentage and 5.69 goals against average. Ropp has played 35 minutes and has made 19 saves and allowed two goals for a .905 save percentage and 3.41 goals against average. Dartmouth's other goalie, rookie Kayla Wormsbecher, has not yet seen any action.
